Pops & Bangs

Overrun Sound Tuning for Track and Off-Road

If you’re looking to add character and aggression to your car’s exhaust note, our Pops & Bangs tuning service is the ultimate finishing touch. Also known as overrun or crackle maps, this feature modifies how the ECU controls fuel cut-off during deceleration, causing unburnt fuel to ignite in the exhaust system and produce sharp pops, bangs, or crackles when you lift off the throttle.

How Pops & Bangs Works

When you release the accelerator, most standard ECUs cut fuel delivery completely to save fuel. Our tuning modifies this behaviour so that a small amount of fuel continues to flow, igniting in the hot exhaust system. The result is a distinctive overrun effect  a series of crisp pops, bangs, or burbles  especially noticeable on turbocharged petrol engines with performance exhaust systems.

Benefits and Features

Creates a distinctive, motorsport-inspired exhaust note.

Adds drama and character to your vehicle, especially on downshifts.

Works best on cars with sports exhaust or de-cat systems.

Can be calibrated for subtle burbles or aggressive, rapid pops.

Important Considerations

  • Pops & Bangs is recommended only for track or off-road use.
  • Vehicles with standard catalytic converters may suffer premature wear or damage.
  • For best results, pairing with a performance exhaust system is highly recommended.

At RAT Remaps & Tuning, we carefully calibrate the overrun maps to suit your engine and exhaust setup. We never use “one-size-fits-all” files — every configuration is custom-built to deliver the sound profile you want while maintaining safe engine operation.
